Our stance on sugar

Our stance on sugar

Three Spirit we have always felt very strongly against using artificial sweeteners or non-sugar sweeteners (NSS) in our drinks. There are many reasons for this. They compromise taste, mouth feel, texture and can leave a god awful lingering finish on the palate - all big no no’s when it comes to creating delicious pleasurable drinking experiences.

Did you see that recently the World Health Organisation advised against using non-sugar sweeteners for weight control? With names like acesulfame K, aspartame, advantame, cyclamates, neotame, saccharin and so on, it's easy to get concerned just trying to read these mystery ingredients out loud. Of course, all food is made up of all sorts of chemicals. For example, some of the antioxidant compounds in apples include quercetin-3-galactoside, epicatechin, procyanidin and coumaric acid... sounds nuts, right? So don't be too frightened just because you don't understand something. Saying that, it's natural to be concerned about what one puts in their body, and this new advice is definitely something to note.

Many mega brands are most focused on maximising market share and minimising costs by chasing trends like zero calorie / zero sugar, using cheap synthetic ingredients. It can hard not to get swept up in the seemingly easy fix. Sometimes following our instinct, our eye or our nose is the best way to navigate the confusing world of packaged food and drinks.

We are reassured in our approach given the recent U turn in advice issued by WHO advising against the use of NSS. At Three Spirit we make drinks that try to offer our customers the chance to indulge. We offer alcohol-free, not pleasure-free. Life is short, so live a little and enjoy the full flavour and full experience that high quality natural ingredients can deliver. Everything in moderation. Welcome to The Third Way.

I still have to keep my sugar intake low

Welcome to you too and not to worry! We understand everyone has different dietary needs or allergies, so you can always check out our low sugar wine alternatives, Blurred Vines.

Let's cut to the chase - how much sugar in Three Spirit?

All of our drinks have less than 8.75 grams of sugar per serving and all of these come from natural sources. As a comparison, a medium sized carrot contains around 2.9 grams of sugar, a 2 inch wide beetroot contains 8 grams, a medium sized banana has over 14 grams of sugar in it and a single apple can contain as much as 23 grams of sugar!

Livener

8.75g sugars per serving.

42.5 calories.

Social Elixir

4.45g sugars per serving.

26 calories.

Nightcap

6.35g sugars per serving.

30 calories.

Isn't that the same amount of sugar as a bottle of Coke?

Three Spirit drinks are designed to be consumed in much smaller measures than say a bottled soft drink. 1.7 fl oz (50ml) per drink is a perfect serving of Three Spirit, and we recommend 1 - 3 servings in one session.
